Conan is an Irish artist working as a painter and printmaker.

Conan’s practice is grounded in a refined sensitivity to colour and composition, producing paintings and printed works that explore the dynamic relationships between geometric forms, spatial tension, and surface. Through carefully balanced arrangements of shape, line, and tonal contrast, his work navigates the threshold between abstraction and landscape, creating compositions that feel at once structured and instinctive. Broad fields of colour interact with sharply defined edges and softer gestural passages, allowing moments of stillness and movement to coexist within the same visual space.

Recognised for his sophisticated approach to colour, Conan uses restrained yet resonant palettes to construct works that are both contemplative and architectonic. Layered textures and intersecting planes suggest shifting perspectives, where formal geometry becomes a vehicle for atmosphere, memory, and emotional response. His paintings invite prolonged viewing, revealing subtle variations in depth, rhythm, and balance that emerge through the interaction of form and colour.

Conan’s artistic development began with the study of Painting at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, before expanding into New Media & Creative Design at Filmbase. He later specialised in Fine Art Printmaking at Academie Beeldende Kunsten Anderlecht in Brussels. This multidisciplinary foundation continues to inform an evolving practice that moves fluidly between traditional and contemporary approaches, shaping his engagement with image-making across painting, print, and other visual media.

Conan’s practice is driven by an intuitive and iterative process in which painting and printmaking continually inform and respond to one another. Often beginning with observation - through portraiture or landscape - his work gradually shifts toward abstraction, where form, colour, and spatial relationships take precedence. Layering, erasure, and reworking are central to his approach, creating surfaces that preserve traces of gesture, time, and process. Through these methods, he explores ideas of transformation, ambiguity, and the tension between clarity and obscurity.

His work has been exhibited extensively throughout Ireland and internationally, including in the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. These varied exhibition contexts have expanded his understanding of audience, space, and cultural perspective, further informing the evolution of his practice. Moving forward, Conan continues to develop an interdisciplinary approach through increasingly experimental and immersive forms, challenging the boundaries between mediums and reconsidering how images are encountered and experienced.
